Tournament Staff

Tournament Directors:

Tournament Director- Alex Anderson graduated from Green Valley High School where he qualified to the National Forensic Tournament for three years, is a two time Nevada State Champion in debate and Extemp and placed in various outrounds throughout the Western United States including the UC Long Beach and Arizona State University Invitationals. He is also the treasurer of Penn for Youth Debate and successfully directed the 2009 LBC.

Tournament Director- Katie Poulos is a former TOC octo-finalist and vice president of Penn for Youth Debate. In addition to successfully coaching dozens of Philadelphia students to success, Katie has also directed the 2007-2008 Perspectives Fall Tournaments and the 2007-2008 Voices of Philadelphia tournaments.

Tournament Director- Ali Huberlie is a former TOC quarter-finalist and president of Penn for Youth Debate. She is also the 2007 Harvard Invitational Champion and was runner-up at the Greenhill and MBA Round Robins. Ali was a tournament adviser for the 2008 LBC, and has successfully directed three round robins at the University of Pennsylvania.

Logistics Director-Mike Contillo is a former LD debate who successfully competed at many tournaments and qualified for Nationals. He is also the coach of 2009 NCFL LD Champion. Mike is on the “Tournaments Team” on the Penn for Youth Debate Executive Board and has successfully directed several interscholastic tournaments for Philadelphia students.

Logistics Director-Amy Wei is a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania and a former policy debater. She is a member of the Penn for Youth Debate Executive Board, and is a vital member of the program, having coached some of PFYD’s most successful students. She also works to plan PFYD’s interscholastic tournaments.

Tabulation:

Tab Room Director - Chris Palmer will return to the LBC’s tabulation staff for a fourth year. Chris is a coach at Newton South High School in Newton, MA, and is past-president of the Massachusetts Forensic League. He designed the tabroom.com tournament management software, which is being used by around 30 tournaments annually, including the Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York state championships, and NCFL Nationals. He has been Speech Tab Director of the Yale Invitational for the past eight years, and the Columbia Invitational for the past six.

Speech Tab Director - Jonathan Chavez, also for the fourth year. Jonathan is a political and business consultant from Massachusetts. Jonathan has taught at schools and camps across the country including Milton Academy, Logan High School, and the National Debate Forum. He has worked in a number of tab rooms of major tournaments in the nation.

Debate Tab Director - Jim Menick joins us in LD tab for the first time. Jim coaches at Hendrick Hudson HS in New York, directs and hosts the Hendrick Hudson Malcolm Bump Tournament, and runs tab at many others, including Yale, Lexington, Columbia, Princeton, most of the Mid-Hudson League tournaments, and many others.

Debate Tab Director - Sheryl Kaczmarek is the coach at Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, NY, and serves on many the same traveling roadshow tab circuses as the rest of this crazy bunch, including Yale, Lexington, and others. Sheryl serves on the TOC Advisory Board for Policy Debate.

There are rumors Matt Scarola may or may not be back to help in 2010 as well; if he does return we promise to make him wear shoes.
